A new Wolf-Rayet star in Cygnus⋆
We report the discovery of a new Wolf-Rayet star in the direction of Cygnus. The star is strongly reddened but quite bright in the infrared, with J = 9.22, H = 8.08 and KS = 7.09 (2MASS). On the basis of its H + K spectrum, we have classified WR 142a a WC8 star. We have estimated its properties using as a reference those of other WC8 stars in the solar neighbourhood as well as those of WR 135, ...
متن کاملMassive Star Populations in Wolf-Rayet Galaxies
We analyze longslit spectral observations of fourteen Wolf-Rayet galaxies from the sample of Schaerer, Contini & Pindao (1999). All 14 galaxies show broad Wolf-Rayet emission in the blue region of the spectrum, consisting of a blend of NIIIλ4640, CIIIλ4650, CIVλ4658, and HeIIλ4686 emission lines, which is a spectral characteristic of WN stars. Broad CIVλ5808 emission, termed the red bump, is de...
متن کاملWolf-Rayet and O Star Runaway Populations from Supernovae
We present numerical simulations of the runaway fractions expected amongst O and WolfRayet star populations resulting from stars ejected from binaries by the supernova of the companion. Observationally the runaway fraction for both types of star is similar, prompting the explanation that close dynamical interactions are the main cause of these high-velocity stars. We show that, provided that th...
متن کاملRevised stellar parameters of Wolf - Rayet stars
We discuss the reliability of the stellar parameters derived from spectroscopic analyses with atmosphere models. We follow the revisions of the stellar parameters of a WN4b star through improvements of the model codes carried out in the last ten years. In order to judge the reliability of the current 'results we have started to analyze binaries for which the mass of the WR star is known and the...
متن کاملNova Geminorum No. 2 as a Wolf-Rayet Star.
It has been known for many years that the spectrum of temporary stars or Novae develops in a later stage into a spectrum nearly identical with that of planetary nebulae. First observed in the case of Nova Aurigae of 1891, the same result has been found to hold for all of the temporary stars observed since that time, including the most important Nova of recent years, Nova Persei of 1901. The que...
